Getting Started

For my class this year, an ISN (Interactive STEM Notebook) is required. I am providing all students with a composition notebook to be used for the ISN.

The ISN contains more than 90% of the class activities, labs, test reviews and other assignments so it is imperative that you have it with you every day.

Textbooks will NOT be assigned in my class this year! If you feel it absolutely necessary to have a textbook at home, let me know, and I will gladly assign one for you to take home and keep until the end of the year.

Each week assignments will be emailed in the parent newsletter sent out each Monday. Please be sure to provide me with an email address that you check regularly to stay up to date on all announcements etc.

STEM will be more prevalent in Science class this year. Your child will be participating in more labs and demonstrations as well as have a lot more writing to do in Science. Please regularly check their ISN (Interactive Science Notebook) against what is posted on the weekly links to be sure they are completing what needs to be done each week. This is critical to their understanding and their participation in the weekly labs.

Class policy = Gotta do the leg work to do the fun work. Can't pass the pre-quiz? = No lab

There will be no daily assignments given specifically for homework in Science. If a student comes home with Science "homework" it is because the assignment was not finished in the allotted class time/s.

ADOPT MY CLASSROOM

We have several STEM challenges and activities for the semester. These challenges will require many small and consumable materials.

Materials necessary: quite a bit of colored copy and construction paper, Sharpie markers, glue (regular and rubber cement), felt, masking tape, Chips Ahoy Cookies (regular not chewy), toothpicks,. Any donations to the adopt a classroom page will be used for materials for these challenges and the final semester.

Many times during the year I have a grant proposal posted on Donors Choose.org for larger items in our classroom. If you work for a company who wants to donate to STEM projects but is uncomfortable with the Adopt a Classroom site, DonorsChoose is also a nationally recognized grant site and frequently has codes for price matching.

I will send a parent email out when a new project goes up so you can check it out.

Please share this link with anyone who may want to contribute. No amount is too small!
